Coming In 2026—The DWR Reincarnation Of Iron Man
Long before he ever dreamed of building boats of his own, which happened in June 2025 with the acquisition of Doug Wright Powerboats, Waves and Wheels company founder/owner Justin Wagner was taking resto-mod projects to an outrageously custom level. Perhaps his most audacious project happened in 2012 with the unveiling of the Iron Man, a Hustler/Talon 377 catamaran based on the Marvel Comics superhero. The 37-footer remains one of the most exacting and detailed projects Wagner and his dedicated crew have ever completed. It is never far from their thoughts.

A Doug Wright Powerboats 39 XTR, Iron Man II will be on the water this summer.
Thanks to Georgia-based Doug Wright Powerboats/DWR customers Frank and Judy Bahin, a second Iron Man-themed project is in the works. But this time, the catamaran won’t be based on a pre-owned build from Hustler. The Bahins have committed to letting Wagner and his talented crew make their new DWR 39 XTR catamaran into Iron Man II.
“Frank and Judy came on a Thursday last month for their DWR ‘design day’ and they toured the entire shop—they got to see our paint operation, the rigging and interior departments, the whole smash,” Wagner explained. “I was going through design options with them, and I showed them Iron Man. It caught Judy’s attention and she said, ‘Oh, I really like layers.’

Seat-shell renderings provide just one example of the next-level detail that will be included in the 39-footer.
“So after I took them to dinner that night, I went home and went to work,” he continued. “I didn’t sleep. I literally stayed up all night drawing Iron Man II. I showed them what I came up with—working with Wes Jones and Kelly Smith the next day—and they loved it. They approved the design by the time they left, and I sent them hone with a framed rendering.”
Powered by a pair of new Mercury Racing 500R outboard engines with aftermarket upgrades, the 39-footer is slated to be on the water by June. For Wagner and company, the move from creating an Iron Man-themed catamaran from another builder’s existing hull to creating Iron Man II from scratch with a hull of their own is a dream come true.
